This year, across Cambodia, the pass rate for Year 12 was 62%. Incredibly all seven of our girls passed and have been accepted into University. We couldn’t be more proud of their achievements. But this leaves us with some difficult decisions.

As these older girls start the next chapter of their lives a new group of girls will move into Mekhala House. Unfortunately, keeping this nurturing and safe home running leaves very little funding to support the older girls through their studies.

Will you make a life-changing gift today to send a girl to university?

It costs $1,800 a year for a girl to pursue her studies. By making a one-off gift today or signing up to be a regular donor for $10 or more a month you can help give a girl the chance to change her future.

Toch Noy’s Story

“My name is Toch Noy. I am 19 years old and I’m in year 12 at Preh Andoung High School. I was born in Sdoa Village in the Prey Veng Province. I have 5 sisters and one brother. My family is very poor. Sometimes we had to go without food. My two older sisters both stopped studying to work in a garment factory when they were very young. My mother became very sick and passed away within a few months.

My father remarried very quickly and my step mother moved in. At first she looked after us well. But in a couple of months she changed and stopped me from going to school.

In 2007, my sisters and I had the opportunity to move to Mekhala House. It is an amazing place – one which I would never have even dreamt about. I have a completely new life here. They provide so much for me and most importantly, I get to go to school. The staff and all of the kind people in Australia give me good advice and encourage me to do good things.

Although school was hard for me at first, I started learning quickly and skipped grade five. Now I am studying Year 12 and almost always get the top of the class. I promise that I will always be a good girl and I will look after my family when I get a good job. I hope that I will be able to study nursing, marketing or agriculture and I hope that CKC and all of our friends will support me to reach this goal.”
