Phally is one of 4 incredible young women you are empowering through education.
This is her story in her words.
“Hello, my name is Phally. I am 19 years old.
After my parents died when I was 6 years old I lived with my uncle’s wife.
She made me get up about 3am every morning. I had to clean the house and work in her shop.
My uncle’s wife was never kind to me and she didn’t look after me well. Her own children did not have to work like me. I didn’t go to school regularly because I was made to work.
Luckily, in 2006 I moved to Mekhala House.
With help from people in Australia, I am getting a good education. Now I can speak English.
My dream is to be a mid-wife.
I want to help decrease deaths of mothers and babies in rural areas. Many children are born at home without medical help.
I want to support my family so my brother can finish school and also go to university.
Thank you for the opportunity to make a difference in my community.”
