Patrick Arthur: Chairman

Patrick Arthur: Director of Finance

Patrick is a Fellow member of CPA Australia and has a long-standing career in financial operations, having worked for several multinational manufacturing companies in CFO roles. Since joining the Board of Cambodian Kids Can in 2011, he has been responsible for a great deal of the successes and major changes undergone by the organisation. Patrick regularly visits Cambodia and ensure that staff at Mekhala House and CKC students have the support they need. Patrick is also instrumental in fostering relationships between CKC and key members of Prey Veng and wider community. He also has a close connection with the Cambodian community in Springvale, and has visited the projects of two other NGOs in Cambodia: Save Cambodian Children Fund Australia, and the Advanced Centre for Empowerment. He recently opted to reduce his full time work commitment to prioritise CKC, and has spent the last few years concentrating on achieving the important goals of the organisation.

Margot Hillel: Chair, Director of Governance and Policy

Margot Hillel: Chair, Director of Governance and Policy

In late 2020, the CKC volunteer board welcomed a new Chair and Director of Governance and Policy, Margot Hillel. Margot is an Emeritus Professor at Australian Catholic University (ACU) and has varied experience in governance and policy development including chairing the Academic Board at ACU for many years. She is currently the Chair of the Board of Impact for Women, a charity supporting women and children escaping extreme domestic violence and is Past President of the Board of the Children’s Book Council of Australia. Throughout her career, Margot has judged many literary awards, has been published regularly in scholarly journals, and co-written several books on using literature with children. In 2000, Margot was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her services to children’s literature through teaching, research, and community service. She has joined the CKC Board as she is passionate about the power of education – truly believing the merit in the phrase: “if you educate a girl, you educate a nation.”

Clive Peter: Board Director, Governance and Workforce

Clive has had an impressive career as a Human Resource leader, with a breadth of experience in blue chip organisations in Australia and around the world. Clive is known for his integrity and ability to problem solve in complex ambiguous environments, provide insight, think strategically and deliver practical solutions in a collaborative way. Aside from being a valued Board Director for CKC, Clive currently works as the Executive Director of People and Culture at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne Australia.

Sonja Skocic: Board Director, Communications and Marketing

Sonja has a background working in clinical leadership, academia and director roles across health sectors and is dedicated to championing education, health and wellbeing for women and girls. Sonja is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is the Founder and Director of Melbourne Centre for Women’s Mental Health where her and her team provide much needed mental health support for women and girls. Sonja also coordinates research within that team and is actively involved in research into women’s mental health. Her volunteering experiences with not for profit organisations dates back to 1994. Special causes & interests include women’s rights, mental health, family violence, disability and inclusivity, sport & community groups. Sonja has vast experience in coordinating projects including fundraising events and sponsorship management and communications as well as utilising marketing strategies to connect people to a cause that is meaningful to them.

Fiona Borg: Board Director

Fiona is a senior, values driven Finance and HR Operations professional. Her expertise in financial controls, auditing, policy, remuneration and payroll are deployed with professionalism and collaboration. Fiona has direct experience in working across multiple functional areas including Human Resources, Finance, IT and Internal Audit, in a time of major organisational change including company mergers.

Fiona also brings to her role a love of learning and passion for unravelling complex issues and improving processes and policies while maintaining legislative and regulatory compliance. She has proven experience in identifying and implementing process and system improvements to improve efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and realise opportunities.

Carolyn Alcorn Board Director

Carolyn has over 20 years of experience in the IT industry with a focus on building global teams, business leadership and delivering complex and strategic projects. She is known for her people-centric values and ability to find common ground with a diverse range of stakeholders in high-pressure situations. Along with her Board Director role with CKC, Carolyn contributes her time to Australian Business Volunteers and mentors STEM students and early career professionals. She is currently working as a Transformation lead for an Australian education not-for-profit.

 

Melissa Ladd: Board Secretary

Melissa has spent much of her career in leadership, change management and HR. With a strong background in culture, engagement, performance, people strategy, governance, diversity, inclusion, and a passion for technology, Melissa is skilled in developing organisational frameworks and implementing culturally aligned technologies to deliver improvements and efficiency. Melissa now enjoys the world of technology start-ups in the no-code platform space.
